THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH – Membership I

TOPIC THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH – Membership I
TEXT Act 2:41-47; Heb 13:1-17
MEMORY VERSE Eph 4:16
INTRODUCTION
The Apostles taught that all believers should relate as members of Christ’s one Body which is the universal Church of God (Eph 1:22-23). Local Church membership is about disciples or believers who identify with and participate cordially and orderly (1Thes 5:12-23) in a local congregation under its local leadership (Act 14:23; Phil 1:1) duly ordered for discipleship and discipline, fellowship and worship, ministry and mission. Disciples are those who through the enablement of Grace believe that eternal salvation from sin and Satan is only in Christ (Act 2:41; 4:12), who also submit to Christ’s Lordship by the power of the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18) according to the Truth witnessed in the Holy Scriptures (2Tim 3:15-17).
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. From Act 2:42-47 and Heb 13:1-17, what are expected of a New Covenant Church member as his/her relational response and responsibilities to his/her local congregation as it concerns…..
(a) Steadfast fellowship attendance,
(b) Harmonious cooperation,
(c) Responsible participation,
(d) Sustainment contribution,
(e) Support and submission to leadership,
(f) Care for guests and the distressed.
2. What do you think was the reason for the relational unity and harmony, godly leadership and fellowship, as found in the Church at the time of the Apostles?
3. What could we learn from this for the Church of today?
