THE SPIRIT’S MANIFESTATIONS IN THE EARLY CHURCH: Miracles

TOPIC THE SPIRIT’S MANIFESTATIONS IN THE EARLY CHURCH: Miracles
TEXT Acts 5:17-23; 12:1-17; 16:16-34
MEMORY VERSE Acts 4:10
INTRODUCTION
Jesus performed many miracles during His earthly ministry and He promised that much more would be accomplished by as many as believe in HIM (Mark 16:17, 18; John 14:12. In the New Testament, the mission to preach the Word goes with the performance of miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 10:1-19). Miracles are gracious manifestations of God’s power (Acts 3:1-11;19:8-12; 1Cor 12:) to provoke surprise and bring praise to God (Mat 15:31), to confirm God’s Word (Mark 10:46-52; Luke 8:43-48), and to help meet one another’s needs in this troubled and temporal world (1Cor 12:7; Jas 5:14-15). However, Jesus and His Apostles also warned strongly that sometimes, miracles are magical display of Satan’s power to exploit, deceive and enslave desperate and deluded people (Mat 24:24; 2Thes 2:9-12).
