TOPIC: Jesus The Saviour Is Born
TEXT: Lk 1 – 2; Mt 1 – 2
MEMORY VERSE: Isa 9:6
Throughout the Christian world Christmas is the most celebrated season, touching the lives of not only Christians but also other people living in different parts of the world. The importance accorded this event in the history of the world is so enormous yet the celebration more than the significance of Christmas is known and pursued. At a time like this many people are asking the same questions that were asked about 2000 years ago when Jesus was born. These questions include: “who is this Jesus?, “where is He coming from?”, and “what is His mission?”. As disciples of Jesus, we need to be knowledgeable in the Bible so as to have ready answers when we are asked. In fact, it should be our main responsibility at Christmas to tell people about this Jesus. The accounts of St. Matthew and Luke on the birth of our Lord are necessary readings in this direction. In addition, His coming was prophesied in the Old Testament by Isaiah (Isa 9:6-7).
1. Who is Jesus? (Mt 1:1-25; 3:11, 16-17; 16:13-20; Heb 1:1-3).
2. What was His Mission? (Isa 61:1-3; Mt 11:1-6; Jn 3:16).
3. Discuss the significance of His birth (Jn 1:1-18; Heb 1:1-4; 3:12-15).
4. Comment on the attitude of people toward Christmas.
